The things I love the best are “unprofessional.” For example, I’m a fanatical gardener who grows produce for 27 neighboring households for the love of it. And I’m an earnest, nerdy singer (?) songwriter who doodles every single morning just because it grounds me and challenges me. After 50 years of messing around, I’m starting to make some progress.
I am a professional essay and book writer who’s apparently been reclassified as amateur, based on recent income. But I can still access the Zone when I’m finally sitting in the silent, static-free coolness of my patiently waiting, slightly dusty desk. Really, isn’t the process as valuable as the product?
Anyway, these amateur songs (links below) go out SPECIFICALLY to my high school and college peers and their peers: proud boomers, travelers, hippies, yuppies, passion masters, and (admit it) GEEZERS, every one. The enclosed Geezer song is still a work in progress but a few others on my Youtube playlist are a little further along. Personally, I think somebody should pay me for The Monkey song or Batman and the Devil, but then they wouldn’t be amateur, so forget that.
Yours in amazement that although it’s all whizzed past us and now our elbows are wrinkled, at least we’ve finally become grown-ups. (Or is that groan-ups?) Cheers!
